Governance Futurism & AI - It's beginning
Human Traits Book Update
The finished manuscript is now in the second of three editing rounds and I have a good idea as to the completed timeline to the publishing finish line! I am aiming to have a soft launch in the last week of May and the public launch during the first week of June! Watch this space for links to order the book during the soft launch. I have targeted the evening of Friday, June 14 for my launch party here in Phoenix, Arizona. More details to come.
Governance Futurism & AI - It's beginning
Last week, I learned about Ukraine's ministry of foreign affairs debuting an AI spokesperson to inform the public to provide timely updates on consular affairs! While this is well short of using AI to perform any actual governance tasks, this trail blazes a path towards governments using virtual AI 'characters' in an official capacity.
In my book, I speculate on the nature of AI being elected to govern. That might seem like a far fetch alternate reality, but the stage is beginning to be set for such events to occur. While it might appear as an extreme example along the spectrum of possibilities, there is no doubt in my mind that if AI is not directly in the foreground, it will absolutely be used in the background to help govern organizations and governments.
In her monologue, Victoria Shi says this:
"With my appointment, we are taking a step into the future. I look forward to our fruitful cooperation."
In the 90's, I was an intern in the White House, in the office of Presidential Personnel for National Security. Our office was responsible for informing and making recommendations to the President of the United States on all presidentially appointed positions that had to do with National Security. This included Cabinet members but also national security advisors and ambassadors. When I hear the word "appointed", that is not to be glossed over. Government appointments take on official responsibilities and actions in the interest of the country and the public it serves. Victoria Shi is just the beginning of more appointments and eventually, perhaps leading to elected officials.
Another source that I have come to rely on during my research while writing the book is Palladium Magazine:
What I appreciate about Palladium is their global lens and overall technology optimism as a way to project humanity's future. A really good article for those interested in the possibility of Artificial General Intelligence upgrading itself:
There are a lot of healthy questions and debates this article covers and Palladium as a whole has helped inform the narrative that I created in Human Traits. I look forward to getting the book out into hands of readers!
